Our topic this month for our Trends and Changes in ICT Series. is “Transforming Knowledge Management into an Operational Capability” In today’s fast-paced workplace, packed with information overload, it is becoming increasingly important to recognize the mechanisms for knowledge transfer within an organization.
TOPIC: “Transforming Knowledge Management into an Operational Capability”
Speaker: Major Timothy Workman (retired), VP Strategic Initiatives, Acron Capability Engineering Inc
Event Overview – In this session Tim will talk about some of the existing challenges with knowledge management as a concept, how potential lack of organizational knowledge transfer can impede operations (whether military or corporate), and how emergent IT systems can be used to minimize these challenges. The discussion will include conceptual models surrounding learning and knowledge management, as well as a practical dialog regarding the technical and cultural changes that organizations will have to overcome in order to develop effective and lasting solutions.
Timothy P. Workman - Biography
Tim served in the Canadian Forces for 19 years, eleven of which were spent at CFB Gagetown during three separate postings in support of Army Individual Training. Prior to retiring in December 2007, he was the head of the Training Enhancement Branch within the Headquarters for the Army Individual Training Authority, a dynamic and rapidly growing organization that strives to exploit existing and emerging technologies, learning theories, and educational practices in order to improve efficiency, effectiveness, engagement, and experiential learning within Army Individual Training. Tim is now working with both private and public sector agencies to foster technological, cultural, and corporate change where required to advance the development of learning and performance support capabilities. Tim also serves the Vice President for LearnNB, the New Brunswick Chapter Canadian Society for Training and Development, and will complete a Masters’ Degree in Distance Education through Athabasca University later this Spring.
Major Tim Workman was the recipient of the 2007 KIRA Award in the “Industry Person of the Year” category.
